Congratulations to the artists whose work was selected for the “Abstract Expressionism” Exhibition.

Our Juror: Eric Garner,  Eric Garner   Comments on the “Abstract” Exhibition:

In our Post-Modern world, abstraction often seems to struggle for timeliness and relevance, and in this strong and visually appealing body of submissions, I was particularly delighted by the array of fresh approaches in digital media.  Still, while impressive optical effects are often more accessible electronically than in traditional painting/drawing media, the tests, or demands, remain the same:  Is this visual poetry?  Does it make me think and feel?  Do I feel it?

These 5 works, in a range of media, for me all carry a potent sense of space, light, time and place, technical mastery, and a completeness and authority that is very much felt.”

Garner‘s Critique:  Beautiful and visually impressive, with unusual color, intense light, and arrested movement, this piece renders chaos in concert with regular mechanical structure.  A graphically strong abstraction with enough layers, included embedded representational imagery, to hold the viewer’s attention.”

"Systematic", George Duperon

2nd Place “Reaching the Surface” by Rod Seeley

Garner’s Critique:   “An appealing, bold abstract space.”

3rd Place “Bather and Observer” by Alexander Ovchinnikov

Garner’s Critique:  “Is it an abstract pastel in intense color?  A Chagall-like dreamscape?  This digital piece carries a range of art historical references in its harmonious color and striking composition.  A complete and beautiful picture.”
